Woodworm is the generic name given to damage caused to timbers in roofs, and other wooden material such as skirtings, floor boards or door frames by the wood-eating larvae of several different species of beetle.
These are usually too small to see with the naked eye, but what will give away their presence are the tell-tale exit holes, which are round in shape. You might occasionally see a dead beetle close to the exit hole, which will look like a short stub of thin, broken pencil lead.
Often these are surrounded by grains of dust, and if you see what looks like unexplained sawdust on your woodwork, this can be an early warning, even if the exit holes are not yet abundant.
If the problem is left to persist, then you’ll eventually see tunnels appear in the timber, where the exit holes connect, and this will weaken the woodwork.
Without the holes and surrounding dust, the problem might be dry rot or wet rot, rather than woodworm, but we can help you regardless. It might even be that the holes are the remains of a previous infestation that has been cleared up by a previous owner. But don’t leave this to chance. Call us and we’ll give you a “No Obligation” inspection and confirm if any treatment is required.
If a course of treatment is necessary, you’ll be covered by our comprehensive guarantee. It may be sufficient to spray the timber surface, but for more established infestations it may be necessary to use chemical treatments – or even to remove and replace the worst infected sections.
We use our own in-house joiner and conduct all this timber treatment work ourselves, giving you the assurance of a quality job backed by our guarantee, which will last up to 30 years. And for complete peace of mind you can also take out an additional and independent 10-year insurance from the Construction Guarantee Service, which will cover the work if Tay Property Services are no longer operating.
Call us on 01738 860170 and we’ll be onsite within 48 hours.
Fluids used by Tay Property Services Ltd are approved by the British Wood Preserving and Damp Proofing association. Where appropriate they carry manufacturers’ guarantees, which will be highlighted for you.
